LAMP (Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification) is a highly sensitive, reliable, fast and efficient method of nucleic acid amplification and detection. Kits based on the LAMP principle can be applied directly to the primary sample, swab in a suitable medium, and thus reduce handling steps. Results are available within 30-40 minutes.
Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) technology offers a wide range of applications from pathogen detection to single nucleotide polymorphism determination. The target sequence is amplified without thermocycling with using a set of loop primers and an isothermal polymerase which, in addition to replication activity, is the ability to dissociate and shift the strand. The presence of loop primers increases the rate and dynamics of the reaction, and therefore the amount of nucleic acid generated by LAMP is higher than number of nucleic acid copies generated by conventional polymerase chain reaction. This characteristic significantly accelerates the detection of the target sequence.
Diagnostic kits based on the colorimetric LAMP principle are designed to be easy to use, with a significant pipetting steps reduction. Robust, with the possibility of using a sample (swab) without nucleic acids isolation. Fast, with results in 30 minutes using color change as an indicator system. An ideal technique for molecular testing in the field, point-of-care settings, or testing outside the reach of laboratory equipment, as no sophisticated laboratory devices are required for the reaction.
Currently available is the LAMP test for Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 detection, which is the most significant pathogenic herpes virus in horses, causing respiratory and neurological diseases, as well as abortions in pregnant mares.
